Anna Faris has claimed that “My Super Ex-Girlfriend” filmmaker Ivan Reitman inappropriately touched her and yelled at her while filming the 2006 romantic comedy, making her feel “angry, hurt and humiliated.”
In the latest episode of her “Unqualified” podcast, the “Scary Movie” and “Mom” star sits with Lena Dunham for wide-ranging and candid conversation about their experience in the film and TV industry – which brings Faris to revisit the claims of directorial misconduct she’d previously teased in 2017.
Faris said that Reitman, the late Oscar nominee best known for the original “Ghostbusters” films, “slapped my ass.”
“Can I speak ill of the dead?” she posed.
“One of my hardest film experiences was with Ivan Reitman,” she said. “I mean, the idea of attempting to make a comedy under this, like, reign of terror – he was a yeller. He would bring down somebody every day … My first day, it was me.”
Faris recalled being brought to the brink of tears that first day after running late to filming due to an accident.
Responding to Faris saying Reitman spanked her, Dunham said, “I don’t think you’re the first person who’s reported that. And I’m so sorry you had that experience,” before asking if anyone had stood up for her.
“No. It was, like, 2006,” Faris said.
Speaking on the incident back in 2017, also on “Unqualified,” Faris recalled the same experience with the then-unnamed director.
“I was doing a scene where I was on a ladder and I was supposed to be taking books off a shelf and he slapped my ass in front of the crew so hard. And all I could do was giggle,” she said at the time. “I remember looking around and I remember seeing the crew members being like, ‘Wait, what are you going to do about that? That seemed weird.’ And that’s how I dismissed it.
“I was like, ‘Well, this isn’t a thing. Like, it’s not that big of a deal. Buck up, Faris. Like, just giggle.’ But it made me feel small. He wouldn’t have done that to the lead male.”
